Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome (PTSD) is best known as a condition suffered by military combat veterans and victims of torture. But it can occur with other situations involving extreme trauma — rape, witnessing a violent death, domestic abuse and others, including severe abuse by a Narcissist. A variation of the condition is referred to as Complex PTSD and is associated with chronic trauma rather than a single incident or series of related events in a confined time-frame.
With both, trauma can be re-lived as “triggers” of past events are encountered and instantaneous traumatized reactions occur. It can also be accompanied by Depression.
Victims of Narcissists who experience PTSD often feel disconnected from others (and themselves) in part because those who have not experienced it (most people) tend not to understand the condition and the feelings and behaviors that manifest from it.
